System KOMPAS
A mobile complex for providing
high-tech surgical care
Advantages of the "Compass" system
Hybrid
Currently, this is the best set of portable devices that, in all stages of
surgical care, can be integrated into a multifunctional system of various complexity and assembled according to the Lego principle. It includes a multifunctional demountable table-rack and a set of devices for performing operations.
Operations
By integrating elements of the innovative "Compass" system into your existing standards, you will receive the most effective solutions to problems regarding the use of modern surgical, neurosurgical and veterinary technologies, which are currently available only to a few large specialized centers.
Autonomous
Thanks to its high mobility and speed of deployment, it is capable of organizing an operation room, where it would be needed at the moment. This is unquestionably the most optimal solution for key tasks under any circumstances. It is embedded and delivered to any point by a single specialist.
Long-term cooperation
This system was developed by Professor Alexander Iova and designed to provide high-tech medical care for surgical, as well as neurosurgical, diseases. The hybrid surgical mini-complex "Compass" has become a successful result of the cooperation between progressive neurosurgeons implementing the principles of Lean medicine and an innovative company operating by the principle of Lean production
The Systems Features
The features of this set are determined by the type of the pre-planned operation and provide solutions to numerous problems. Here are some of their purposes:

— Intraoperative visualization in real time
— Microsurgical operations
— Open Operations
— Stereotactic navigation
— Hybrid Operations
What does the Compass system consist of?
"Compass" is a set of portable devices that are assembled according to the "Lego" principle and can be integrated into a multifunctional system of varying degrees of complexity.
Popular questions about the "Compass" system.
During the process of developing the hybrid complex for "Compass", we considered most of the plausible questions and generated the most deliberate answers to them:
What is KOMPASS?
KOMPASS (abbreviated as Complex Assistant) is a set of special devices that organize a workplace for the surgeon where it is needed.
Where can this system be used?
Initially, KOMPAS was created by a neurosurgeon to perform operations on the brain. In the future, it will have unlimited utilization. This system is of particular value in areas where mobility and speed of deployment are needed (medical disasters, "red zones" of COVID hospitals).
Currently, KOMPAS elements are used by veterinarians to solve a broad range of surgical tasks.
Is it possible to purchase and use system elements separately?
Each element is independent, has its own function and can indeed be purchased separately.
What is a surgical arm used for?
It is the main element of the system. It is intended for preliminary bringing various kinds of surgical instruments into the operating field. It can also be used as a mount for auxiliary gadgets, such as smartphones, cameras, and additional light.
What is a micromanipulator?
If we already have a "hand" in the system, then the micromanipulator is its "brush". Attached to the surgical arm, the micromanipulator provides a unique combination of both searching for a surgical target and then accurately inserting surgical instruments into the desired area. The micromanipulator is a precise mechanism with degrees of freedom: rotation in the tripod joint, tilting of the rail into two flat elevations and the ability to shift. Designed for fixing: endoscopes, ultrasound probes, biopsy needles and other instruments.
What are headrests used for?
The headrests are designed to hold the patient’s head during surgical procedures.
KOMPAS headrests have 2 versions and have a common base with a clamp.
The two versions are: hard (analogue of Mayfield®) and soft (own development).
The hard headrest:
Allows you to accurately fix the subject of manipulation using screws with pointed tips. The screws are located in the adjustable brackets. It is convenient to fix the retractors on the upper arcs.
The soft headrest:
Allows you to fix the object of manipulation using screws with soft stops. The screws are located in the adjustable brackets. The retractors are mounted onto the supportive side walls.
The soft headrest is also of popular use with veterinarians, due to its ability to secure a small subject of manipulation.
Why do surgeons need hand support?
Minimal trembling in the hands is common for all surgeons.
However, in many cases, this trembling can significantly increase during
the process of executing important duties. Therefore, it is the obligation of microsurgery to improve systems to help with the minimizing of trembling — the use of support for the surgeon’s hand.

Practical benefits:
  • Application "at the right time and in the right place"
  • Quick installation and removal
  • Independently supporting the right and left hand
  • Support on the outer edge of the palm (in the area of an elevated pinky finger — hypothenar) (optimal support that helps with the disappearance of trembling in the hand and fingers)
  • Mobility and support of the surface
  • Easy adjustment and fixation
  • Makes performing the operation both standing and sitting easy and comfortable
  • Openness of the operating area
How can I get to know the KOMPASS system better?
You can get a job training:
  • At the Department (NIL) of Scientific Research the Laboratory of Innovative Technologies of Medical Navigation (SZGMU), North-Western State Medical University in the name of I. I. Mechnikov in St. Petersburg for surgeons;
  • At the veterinary clinic of the village of Sotnikov for veterinarians;
We can also send, by prior arrangement, samples of system elements to your city to undergo testing in working conditions.
Do you have delivery?
Deliveries are transported to any point of the Russian Federation as well as the CIS countries.
Can it be sterilized?
All elements of this system can be sterilized in a dry-heat cabinet.
What materials is the system made of?
The micromanipulator is made of ultra-strong space material — titanium. The remaining elements are made of stainless medical steel.
